Vittoria Bussi is the fastest women’s velodrome cyclist in the world.
On September 13, 2018 at Aguascalientes, Mexico she rode 48.007km in one hour, fueling with HVMN Ketone. Vittoria beat the previous record of 47.980km, set by Evelyn Stevens in 2016.
The Hour is one of cycling’s oldest and most prestigious challenges. From a stationary start, cyclists see how far they can ride on an indoor track in 60 minutes. It’s an absolutely punishing physical feat that exists in a microcosm of isolated physiology.
So unlike outdoor cycling (and all other sports), the Hour is uniquely absent of variables. There’s no jostling for position; there’s no reliance on teammates or communication. There’s only rider and bicycle and time clock–and all the pain of seeing your physical limit and knowing you must push past it.
The lack of outside factors makes “The Hour” a perfect battleground for HVMN Ketone. It’s pure focus and power, an athlete pushing their body to the limit, and Vittoria quite literally went further than any woman has ever gone before.
We’re proud to make Vittoria the first HVMN Athlete, and to have fueled her world record breaking ride with HVMN Ketone
When one person completes an impossible task, it becomes possible for all of humanity.
Vittoria’s background made her especially attuned to the physical demands of the Hour. She was a track and field athlete for decades, leaving the athletic world for academia, receiving her PhD in Mathematics from Oxford University. She knows the aerodynamics: head down, elbows tucked, unflinching focus on keeping her tire glued to the velodrome’s thin black line (the shortest distance around the track).
Vittoria decided she again wanted to pursue sport after a death in the family reignited her passion for triathlons. She found her skills best fit cycling–but soon, realized she was a specialist built for speed.
A professional UCI cyclist for two years, she always performed best at time trials, red-lining until crossing the finish. Like a Formula One racecar, her engine only runs high-octane. But this type of all-out effort doesn’t exist in road cycling.
That’s what drove Vittoria to attempt The Hour” in 2017, landing her second on the all-time list. She fell 400m short of history.
Using HVMN Ketone, she conquered the challenge and now sits alone at the mountaintop of indoor cycling as a world record holder.
