Effects of Intermittent Fasting in Athletes

The topic of intermittent fasting in competitive athletes is of interest because unlike those who exercise for recreational purposes, competitive athletes demand peak physical performance and usually require fine-tuned, optimal nutritional intake to perform well.

One population of interest is in Muslim athletes, who regularly undergo daily fasting during Ramadan, which lasts 29-30 days. Many studies have been conducted on both athletes and non-athletes in this population.1
